The Omen 1976

The Omen (1976)

Robert and Katherine Thorn seem to have it all. They are happily married and he is the US Ambassador to Great Britain, but they want nothing more than to have children. When Katharine has a stillborn child, Robert is approached by a priest at the hospital who suggests that they take a healthy newborn whose mother has just died in childbirth. Without telling his wife he agrees. After relocating to London, strange events - and the ominous warnings of a priest - lead him to believe that the child he took from that Italian hospital is evil incarnate. Written by garykmcd

Personal Review: What else can be said about this classic? Top notch acting, great script, fantastic directing.  The son of the devil as a small boy? How far would the dark side go to protect the boy from being found and killed?  A lot – or it was all coincidence.  That last bit was laid to rest with the sequels, of course.  Jerry Goldsmith definitely deserved the Academy award for the music, it lending massively to the overall eerie and oppressive feeling of the film.  Of course with Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, Billie Whitelaw, Patrick Troughton and more are fantastic and elevated what could have been a run-of-the-mill 1970s tv-witchcraft film to a killer film.
